The Vinton-Shellsburg boys track team won second place in the Pirate Relays in Hudson on Friday, April 9. The Vikings had 92.5 total points, second to host Hudson which had 153. Union took third with 86.75 points. “Overall, I would say that this was by far our best performance of the year,” said VS Track Coach Aric Chvala. “Most athletes performed the best that they had all year long, and that is all that you can ask for. If we continue to improve each meet, we will be right were we want to be at the end of the year. We just competed much better than we have the first few meets. You could see it in our kids -- no matter what the situation they didn't want to get beat by the person next to them and the result was we beat some good teams in the standings.” Vikings who won gold medals at Hudson include: Grant Wittmer, shot put, 51 feet, five inches; and Chase Withnell, dicus, 139 feet, seven inches.
