There were a lot of smiles on a rainy Friday at Vinton-Shellsburg High School as a pair of Vikette soccer players put their futures on paper. Seniors Olivia Erhardt and Taryn Sutton made it official as they signed their letters of intent to play for the RedTails of Hawkeye Community College before a room full of family teammates and fans.

Olivia and Taryn join an overall HCC program that also includes former Vikings Brock Ortner and Kody Vogt. RedTails head coach Robbie Carroll was asked what has attracted to his staff to recruit area players.
For the mens program there is a real blue-collar work ethic and we really like that, he said. In the case of women like these two, its the technical skill. They are talented young ladies and goes to their skills and their coaching (with a nod toward V-S girls coach Megan Hesson). There is a lot of talent around here and were excited to have them with us."Photos
