The Vinton-Shellsburg volleyball team went 3-2 and finished third at Saturday’s Vikette Invitational at the Garrison Fieldhouse.

The Vikettes (now 8-5 overall) opened straight set wins over Iowa Valley (21-15, 21-19), Belle Plaine (21-9, 25-23) and Nashua-Plainfield (21-5, 21-19) before dropping in 2-0 matches to West Delaware (11-21, 11-21) and Janesville (20-22, 21-23) to close out the day. West Delaware won the tournament with Janesville finishing second.

Janesville came into the day ranked 3rd in 1A in the state, while West Delaware was 4th in 4A.

Josie Sagen had another strong performance with 33 kills, 26 assists and 28 digs. Brynn Patterson added 13 kills, while Kaitlyn Meyer led the team in assists with 40. Leah Bohnsack helped out with 27 digs and RaeLynn Murray added 26. Complete stats can be found at here. 

The Vikettes will be back home Monday night for a quadrangular with Dyersville Beckman (ranked 3rd in 2A), Oelwein and Solon. First serve is set for 5 PM at Garrison Fieldhouse.
