With a big rivalry match and a home opener ahead, this is already a big week for Vinton-Shellsburg’s volleyball and football teams. But both programs will also be a big part of an even bigger cause.

The “COURAGE FOR CARLY” benefit for Tilford kindergarten teacher Carly Meyer was originally scheduled for Thursday when the Vikette volleyball team hosts Benton Community. But the local response was so great that the decision was made to move part of the event to Friday night at Karr Athletic Complex when the Viking gridders host Tipton in their 2019 home opener.

V-S Kindergarten teacher, Carly Meyer was recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. The fundraiser will begin at 5:00 p.m. and continue through the volleyball match. Thursday will feature a bake sale, silent auction, dunk tank, and big volleyball match-up between the Vikettes and Bobcats. Both teams will be sporting “COURAGE FOR CARLY” t-shirts prior to the game.

Some of the silent auction items will be available at the stadium Friday night as well during to the Vikings’ match-up against the Tipton Tigers.
