The weather was less-than-ideal for the Vinton-Shellsburg boys soccer team in its opening game on Tuesday.

The Vikings hosted Western Dubuque to begin the last soccer season on "The Hill", the land north of the high school that was converted into a soccer field. Next season, the teams expect to play on the new all-purpose field turf at the Karr complex, where football and track and field competitions take place.

The Vikettes traveled to Western Dubuque on Tuesday, and play their first home game Friday. Both VS teams lost on Tuesday.

VSHS track seasons began recently; golf teams begin competition tomorrow.
