Sports : Vikettes medal in many events at Union Early Bird

The Vinton-Shellsburg girls track team competed with several other schools at the Early Bird track meet at Union High School in La Porte City on Thursday.

While no official team scoring took place, the Vikettes did very well, placing in the top 3 in 12 events.

Those winning for the Vikettes included Bristi Gerber in the 800M run. The Vikettes swept that event, as Lily Horst came in 2nd and Annika Schmidt, 3rd.

Horst won the 3000M run; Cassie Kenney came in second. Amanda Dedrick finished first in the discus toss with a throw that was one inch short of 100 feet.

The Vikettes also won the 4 x 100 relay (LaDorshae Mull, Payton Leonard, Maci Griffith and Dawne Schminke), and the 4 x 800 relay (Bristi Gerber, Payton Leonard, Lily Horst and Annika Schmidt).
