Sports : Vikings take second in Early Bird meet

Matthew Andreesen runs the 400 hurdles for the Vikings.

Connor Miracle was 5th in long jump.

Derek Dinderman, a state qualifier last season, won two events in the Viking Early Bird.

Tyler Bartz won the 400M event and also the long jump.

Lane Rowe runs a leg of a shuttle hurdle relay.

The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings finally had good weather for the Early Bird track meet, and finished second in Tuesday’s event.

Winners for VS included Tyler Bartz, 400M and long jump; Derek Dinderman, 800M and 3200M; and the 4 x 100 relay team.

Last year, the event was delayed, and then canceled, because of cold weather.
