Sports : VS bowlers do well at District Team event; prepare for individual competition

Last night the varsity Girls and Boys competed in the first Annual District Team Tournament. With this being the first time for these teams to compete in an event this style, they did very well The Varsity teams included: BOYS: Cole Garwood, Nick Stein, Jordan Schoettmer, Ben Wood, Jacob Gosse, Tyler Rasmussen. GIRLS: Haley Dinderman, Sierra Goodell, Isabel Dedrick, Erin Wood, Taylor Berry, Alyssa Bunge. The qualifying round was set up as 10 baker games. Once completed, the teams were ranked first through eighth. Then then teams went head to head in a bracket style match play. The results are as follows: 10 game Qualifying Boys: 2175, Average 217.5 which is 23.9 Pins above average. 1st Team overall in qualifying Girls: 1574, Average 157.4 which is 10.2 pins above average 3rd Team overall in qualifying Match Play: Best 2 out of 3 Boys: First round vs Denver: 201, 182 vs 182,144 Second round vs Tripoli: 190, 188 vs 210, 236 GIrls: First round vs Forest City: 133, 144, 125 vs 131, 169, 183 Boys: Finished 3rd overall in the district whereas the girls finished 5th overall in the district. I was so proud for the kids yesterday. They worked really well together. Our team is continually growing and it showed today. I was approached by the Charles City Coach after the qualifying and he expressed how impressed he was with the quality of bowlers we have at Vinton Shellsburg. Next week, we have the Individual District Tournament in Waverly which starts at 11:00am. Only the top 24 individuals in the district will be bowling. They taken the top 2 from each team and then combine the rest of the bowlers and only take the top 6 based on their season average. I am proud to announce that the VS bowling teams have 4 girls and 4 boys competing in this competition. We are the only team that has 4 bowlers from both girls and boys.
