Sports : Ranked Vikings, Vikettes aiming to qualify for State at Regional CC event

Derek Dinderman has been among the leaders for the Viking CC team all season.

Lily Horst is ranked 10th among Class 3A cross country runners.

Derek Dinderman and Lily Horst are leading the Vinton-Shellsburg cross country teams as the runners prepare for the Regional contest Thursday at Hart Ridge Golf Course near Manchester. The Regional event determines which teams or individuals will qualify for State.

Both the boys and girls are ranked in the Iowa Association of Track Coaches Top 15 among Class 3A teams. The boys are 11th; the girls 13th. Horst is also ranked 10th among Class 3A individuals.

Dinderman finished 8th at the recent Wamac meet; Viking Jordan Evans finished 11th. Horst led the VS girls at the Wamac event, finishing 5th. Vikettes Bristi Gerber and Payton Leonard also finished in the top 12.
