The Vinton-Shellsburg cross country teams did very well during Tuesday's VS invitational cross country race at Rodgers Park, where VS runners finished first in five of six events.

Grace Horst won the middle school girls race. Nolan Haisman won among middle school boys. Lily Horst was the varsity girls winner and Derek Dinderman was top medalist in the varsity boys race. In JV races, Scott Wirth won for the boys and Hannah Haisman led VS with a second place finish for the girls. In that race, VS runners took second, third, fourth and fifth places.

Viking and Vikettes also finished first in team scoring in all races, except for middle school girls, in which they were second.

Medalists and overall placing for each team included:

Varsity girls (first): Lily Horst, first; Bristi Gerber, third; Payton Leonard, fifth; and Elizabeth Davis, eighth.

Varsity boys (first): Derek Dinderman, first; Jordan Evans, third; Cole Tharp, sixth; Jonah Blix, eighth; and Cole Smith, 10th.

JV girls (first): Hannah Haisman, second; Elly Gloede, third; Hannah Kalous, fourth; and Olivia Oltrogge, fifth.

JV boys (first): Scott Wirth, first; Brandon Price, second; Kyle Jorgensen, third; Quinton Guenther, fourth; Conner Miracle, fifth, Connor Bendull, seventh; Nolan Hendrickson, 11th.

Middle school girls (second): Grace Horst, first; Amelia Birker, third; Sarah Schminke, eighth; Maddie Erhardt, 10th; Libbie Timmerman, 11th.

Middle school boys (first): Nolan Haisman, first; Axl Hoepner, second; Casey Funk, fourth; Thomas Osborn, fifth; Brock Ortner, eighth; Weston Powers, 10th.
