While several Vinton-Shellsburg United Special Olympics athletes earned the right to compete in the state event in Ames in next month, the entire team will be making the trip to the event, said Mike Kramer, the father of Zach, who advanced in several events.

"Of course we are a team and no one stays behind," said Mike. "All our athletes will be attending as there are plenty of good times to be had at state. Among the activties, he said, are celebrations, a dance, Opening Ceremonies and "tons of fun for all."

Below are the results for VSU athletes at the Regionals which took place Saturday, April 12, at Coe College. Those who finished first qualified for the State event.

Leyton Aldrich: tennis ball throw -1st place; 25M walk - 1st place;

Shelby Arp: Softball throw 3rd place; 50M dash 3rd place

Nickole Bascom: softball throw 1st place; 4x100 relay coed jr 1st place; 50m dash 1st place

Noah Blix: 4x100 relay male jr 1st place; 50m dash 1st place ;softball throw 1st place

Tyler Clark: 100m dash 1st place; Running long jump 1st place ;4x100 relay sr male 2nd place

Amanda Covington: Turbo jav 1st place; 100m dash 1st place; 4x100 relay jr coed 1st place

Sage Holmes: tennis ball throw 1st place; 4x100 relay jr male 1st place; 50 m dash 3rd place

Zach Kramer: 4x100 relay coed jr 1st place; 100m dash 1st place; shotput 1st place

Jonathon Kruse: 50m dash 1st place; running long jump 1st place; 4x100 male jr 1st place

Ryan Lane: 50m dash 1st place; 4x100 relay jr male 1st place ( he was our emergency sub for another that had to leave); and he had a "Very impressive" tennis ball throw for 1st place in that event, says Mike.

Michael Malmgren: Turbo Jav 4th place; 200m dash 1st place

Justin Shaw: 4x100 relay sr male 2nd place; PENTATHALON (shotput, running long jump, 100m dash, high jump, 400m dash) 1ST PLACE

Rodney Uthoff: 200m dash 1st place; 4x100 relay sr male 2nd place; shotput 1st place

Beauregard Vinton: running long jump 1st place; 4x100 relay coed jr 1st place; 200m dash 2nd place

Marrissa Yasak: tennis ball throw 1st place; 50m dash 1st place

Cody Young: 50m dash 1st place; Turbo Jav 2nd place; 4x100 relay sr male 2nd place

Melissa Young: shotput 1st place.
