Nolan Sagan, the Viking leading scorer who is also near the top of the Wamac West scoring statistics, is this week's KCRG Athletes of the Week

The station will feature Nolan during its 10 p.m. broadcast tonight.

Nolan averages 15.2 points per game, and has made several key shots to help the Vikings win this year. Now a senior, he was the only junior starter on last year's team which advanced to the State Tournament last year.

Nolan ranks a very close second in the Wamac West conference in scoring and averages more than 8 rebounds per game (ranking third in the conference).

“The team is 4-11 but hey have played in a lot of close games," says Nolan’s dad, Nick. The Vikings have played in five overtime games and have been in nine games decided by four points for less.

Highlights for Nolan this season include a winning shot as time expired at Marion.

"Chase Overton threw a length-of-the-court football-style pass to Tanner Spies who tipped the pass to Nolan who was standing under our basket who shot the ball in. It was an ESPN top 10 play,” says Nick.

Against South Tama, Nolan made a shot at the end of the game to win it. The Vikings have defeated 4th-ranked Solon and took top five-ranked Western Dubuque to overtime. In the Western Dubuque game, Nolan hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send it into overtime.

“There have been lots of good memories this season even though the overall record has not been as good as they wanted – so far,” Nick says. “Their record could be a lot different if a few things had gone their way.”
