In October, many youth bowlers along with one of their parents participated in a local competition to advance to the USBC District Family Double competition. Each team of bowlers complete three games of bowling and their bowling score and handicap is added together to reach their total team score. The highest score wins in each age and category. Bowlers participate from many local bowling alleys from Anamosa, Belle Plaine, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Marengo, Monticello, Mount Vernon, Tama and Williamsburg.
The youth bowlers that participated in the local competition at Berry's Lanes were: Anna Becker, Taylor Berry, Ethan Dedrick, Jacob Gosse, Katie Murdock, Kory Murdock, Jordan Schoettmer, Ryan Schoettmer, Jeana White, Jillian White, and Jozee White.
To participate in the Family Double Competition the youth bowlers must be a member of the local USBC leagues. The competitions are held in the following categories: Mother/Daughter, Mother/Son, Father/Daughter and Father/Son and the age brackets are: 8 & Under, 9-11, 12-14 and 15-20. Depending on the number of bowlers registered in each age group and category determines how many bowlers advance to the next round of competition. This competition allows the youth bowler to compete with their parents against other families and to have fun.
This year Berry's Lanes sent ten youth bowlers to the District competition that were held last weekend at Lancer Lanes in Cedar Rapids. The bowlers that advanced to the district competition in Cedar Rapids include the following: Anna Becker, Taylor Berry, Ethan Dedrick, Jacob Gosse, Katie Murdock, Jordan Schoettmer, Ryan Schoettmer, and Jeana White. Some of the youths advanced in with both of their parents in their age category.
Results have been posted and three families have advanced to the state competition which will be held at Lancer Lanes. Congratulations Jordan & Melinda Schoettmer, Jeana & Jennifer White, and Jacob & Michele Gosse for advancing to state. Good luck bowlers!
