The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings won their home track meet, the Viking Invitational, by a large margin Thursday evening. V-S had 147.50 points, second place Marion, 113 and third place Benton Community, 76. What is Pickleball? Pickleball, while easy for beginners, can also develop into an intense competition for high-level players. With a low net, a court smaller than a tennis court, and a no-volley zone, the pace of the game can escalate with four experienced players. Many pickleball leagues around the country feature experienced players with high-levels of competitiveness.

  The Vinton-Shellsburg girls soccer team, facing injuries to two goalies, lost Varsity 10-0, to Clear Creek Amana on Friday. The Vikette JV team lost 2-0. "Mattie Walker stepped in and played keeper for us after injuries to both Chelsea Brown and Erin Spangler, who usually play keeper," said Coach Alana Svenson.

The Benton Community Lady Bobcats took first place by a big margin in Vinton, winning the Vikette Relays with 138 points. The host V-S girls were second with 92 team points. The members of the Vinton-Shellsburg girls track team (Mr Johnson) spent the day at the special olympics volunteering their time and effort.   

Brad Forbes took the checkered flag in hobby stock feature April 18 in Vinton. Other winners include:     Scooter Dulin, Stock Car.   Danny Dvorak, Sports Mod.   Adam Johnson, Modifieds.   Gary Peiffer, Sports Compact.

The Vinton-Shellsburg Special Olympics team sent 26 competitors to the Regional meet at Coe College this weekend and came home with 19 first place wins.  The team will attend the Iowa Special Olympics event in May at Iowa State, and those 19 first place winners will compete in Ames. Also competing from the area were several others, including the Cedar Valley Ranch, the Iowa Braille School and Vinton Independent, which included the Young family.

 By Jeff Holmes VINTON – The Vinton-Shellsburg girls’ golf team enjoyed a little home-cooking Thursday night as they rolled a 223-235 home dual-meet victory over Jesup Thursday night at the Vinton Country Club. Consistency was the hallmark for the Vikettes, who were paced by runner-up medalist Cara Hach’s round of 55. Kelsey Mahood added a 56, Erin Randall a 57 and Hannah Looney at 58 to round out the Vikette scoring.

  By Jeff Holmes Jake Dyson shared medalist honors, but the Vinton-Shellsburg boys’ golf team finished third Thursday in a WaMaC Conference triangular at Wildcat Country Club. Marion won the meet with a score of 167, while Independence was second was second with a 177 and Vikings third with a 185. Dyson fired a 39 to share medalist honors with Kyle Christensen of Independence.
