Bob was born at home July 6, 1935 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was the fourth child of nine born to William Francis and Neva Morrison Readnour. Bob graduated from Atkins High School as a salutatorian and went on to work on the assembly line at Collins Radio Company in Cedar Rapids. In 1958 Uncle Sam requested he join the U.S. Army. Bob was stationed on the border between East and West Germany and guarded the militarized zone for 18 months. After he was honorably discharged, he returned to Collins Radio and worked his way from maintenance worker to Operations Manager Facilities and Maintenance at Rockwell International. For 37 years he was responsible for all aspects of maintenance at the company, including the landscaping of the Collins Road building grounds.
Bob was a compassionate, generous community member and always willing to lend a helping hand to the church and friends. He and Dorothy lived their faith by supporting neighbors, fostering children and caring for Laotian refugees. He had many friends and there was always a crowd around the table swapping tales and drinking gallons of coffee. His passion was trout fishing and was often seen wading the trout streams of northeastern Iowa dreaming of catching “Mr. Big.”
Bob’s service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 28, at Infuse Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. 3113 1st Ave SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405. Teahen Funeral Home is assisting Bob’s family
