Obituaries : Ernest C. “Jake” Jacobson

Ernest C. "Jake" Jacobson, age 78, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025 with his family by his side.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM, Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E 6th St) in Vinton. A Celebration of Ernest's life will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, June 11, also at the funeral home.

Ernest was born on September 7, 1946, in Bagley, MN, the son of Clarence, and Dora (Clemenson) Jacobson. He served his Country in the United States Marine Corps for 3 years during the Vietnam War. On July 8, 1967, he was united in marriage to Lois Kraus at St. Pius Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Ernest worked at Cargill in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 2007

Ernest loved fishing, hunting, trapping and spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed woodworking and trips to the casino in Tama. He loved his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren and loved to spend time with them. He was always willing to help fellow vets and enjoyed being a mentor to kids and young adults wherever he was.

Survivors include his wife Lois, children, John (Lisa) Jacobson of Center Point, Jerri Ann (Charles) Ondrashek of Center Point, Jason Jacobson of Kahoka, MO; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Ned Christopherson of Clearwater, MN; his sisters, Mavis (Ed) Dickerson of Garrison, and Peggy Schumacher of Crookston, MN: and his brother-in-law, Robert Kraus of North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 grandsons, Sawyer and Tyler Jacobson; and his brother Don Jacobson.
