Rev. Marvin Lee Lorenz

March 18,1951 - April 12, 2021

Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. Let us remember with thanksgiving what God has done through His servant, Marvin.

Marvin Lee Lorenz was given life by his creator and was born on March 18, 1951, the child of Melvin and Eleanor (Hacker) Lorenz. On April 8, 1951, he received the gift of Holy Baptism and became a child of God. In 1965, he publicly confessed his faith and was confirmed. He received the precious gift of the Lord's life-giving body and blood. Marvin was joined together in holy matrimony to Mary Jean (Davis) on August 29, 1976, while on vicarage at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bloomington, IL, and was blessed with 44 years of marriage.

Marvin graduated from St. Paul's College (Concordia, MO) in 1971, later going on to graduate from Concordia Teacher's College (Seward, NE) in 1973, and Concordia Theological Seminary (Fort Wayne, IN) in 1977 with a Master's in Divinity. On June 5, 1977, Marvin was ordained at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Luzerne, IA. He served parishes in Mercer, WI; Phillips & Kennan, WI; Wausau, WI; Delavan & San Jose, IL; and Latimer, IA.

God blessed Marvin's life with many special people as he served God in his vocations at home, church, and in the community. He treasured his time with his family and grandchildren and enjoyed amazing them with magic tricks. He also enjoyed raising rabbits, working in the garden, woodworking, hummingbirds, flowers, and playing the town Santa Claus.

Finally, on April 12, 2021, God blessed Marvin with a holy death and took him home to rest in the arms of Jesus to await the resurrection of the dead. He is survived by his wife, Mary; brothers, Larry (Nancy Engelking) of Luzerne, IA, Jim (Pam) of Peculiar, MO; children, Jennifer (Wayne) Wright of Normal, IL, Rebecca (Josh) Oberg of Conroy, IA, Timothy (Kristin) Lorenz of Huntington, IN; grandchildren Emma Oberg, Abigail Lorenz, Noelle Lorenz, and Oliver Lorenz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant sister Joni Marie.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our brother Marvin.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 17, 2021 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Luzerne, with Rev. Dean Duncan officiating.
