Mary Ann Mente, age 82 of Vinton and formerly of Tipton, died Monday October 24, 2016 at the Vinton Lutheran Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday October 28 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence at 10:30 A.M with Pastor Tommi Boeder officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M until service time at the church.
Mary Ann was born on November 1, 1933 to Herman and Hilda (Studt) Oelerich in Scott County, Iowa. She married James Mente on June 27, 1964 in Davenport.
Mary Ann was an avid baker and loved to make treats for her family. She was a farm wife but also worked at Wal-Mart for many years in Tipton. Mary Ann liked to sew, playing cards and card clubs, going to her grandkids events, going for drives with her husband, and cheering on the Hawkeyes. In her younger years she was a 4-H leader and had a love for gardening.
She is survived by her husband, James; son, David (Stacy) of Adrian, MN.; daughter, Denise (Todd) Wiley of Walker, IA.; 7 grandchildren; brother, Earl Oelerich of Davenport; sister, Shirley Morrow of DeWitt; sister-in-law, Teresa Anderson of Arlington Heights, IL.; and nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Jack Morrow.
