VINTON – L. Faye Goodell, 96, died Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City due to complications of old age.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Rev. Lexie Kirkpatrick officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. Per Faye’s wishes, the casket will remain closed.

Faye was born June 24, 1920, in Comer, Montana, the daughter of Helge and Flo Hanson Clang. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton.

On December 25, 1938, Faye was united in marriage with Harold O. Goodell in Vinton. The couple enjoyed doing needlework together, including embroidery and cross-stitch. Harold made the wormwood frames that displayed their work. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1998.

In 1952, Faye began working at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids. She was one of the first Rockwell Collins employees to work on the Apollo space shuttle. She retired in 1972.

Faye had been a member of Stewart United Methodist Church in Vinton and was a past President of the Iowa Navy Mothers. She enjoyed going to Senior Dining in Vinton and playing cards and Bingo.

Faye is survived by her children: Margaret (Jerry) Mann and Jim (Joann) Goodell of Cedar Rapids; Don (Dora) Goodell of Rogers, AR; Norm (Elsie) Goodell of Cedar Rapids; and Dave (Janet) Goodell of Vinton; two sisters: Barb (Bill) Fuchs of Vinton and Dorothy (Tony) Scozzafava of St. George, UT; 12 grandchildren: Craig (Beth) Mann, Carol (Jeff) Romans, Eric Mann, Susan (Frank) Marmo, Mike (Angie) and Renee Goodell, Susan Gay, Scott (Marcia) Goodell, Angie (Jeff) Miller, and T.J. (Danica), Mark and Matt (Monica) Goodell; 16 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister Alene Clang; and brother Bob Clang.

A memorial fund has been established.
