Allen LeRoy “Gus” Wyckoff
May 26, 1939 - April 28, 2016
Gus Wyckoff, 76, of Auburn, Alabama, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016. Mr. Wyckoff was born May 26, 1939, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Sidney Allen and Mary Lucille (Harrison) Wyckoff. He spent his youth in Vinton, Iowa, where in 1957 he graduated from Washington High School. On July 7, 1962, he married Billie Mae Snow in Petersburg, Alaska.
Gus proudly served in the US Navy for 20 years, including four tours in Vietnam. Following an honorable discharge from USN VA-105 Gunslingers Attack Squadron in 1978, Gus joyfully served as a school custodian in and around Manchester, Iowa, for many years. He was deeply loved by students and faculty. In 1995 they moved to Auburn, Alabama, where Gus continued to work in a custodial position at Auburn University until his final retirement in 2001. For the remainder of his retirement, Gus enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife Billie, children, and grandchildren. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since 1964.
Survivors include his eternal companion, Billie; two daughters, Michelle Hubbs of Auburn; Rebecca Wyckoff of Augusta, GA, and one son, Jeremy Allen (Elizabeth) Wyckoff of Webb, AL. Eight grandchildren, Debra (Jared) Burt, Danielle (Zack) Hubbs, Rachel Hubbs, Steven Hubbs, Tyre Wyckoff, Morgan Wyckoff, Reed Wyckoff, and Ingram Wyckoff; two great grandchildren, Riley and Caroline Burt; one nephew, Rick (Patty) Yearian of Safford, AZ; and other extended family. Preceding him in death are his infant daughter, Faith Angela Wyckoff, his parents, a sister, and a half-brother.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2016, at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Opelika, Alabama, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Burial will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, 553 Highway 165, Ft. Mitchell, AL 36856, at 1:30 p.m. CST Tuesday, May 3.
