VINTON:  Max Alfred Elkins, 82, of Vinton, IA died Saturday of natural causes. 

     Max was raised in Minnesota and later moved to Iowa, where he lived several locations in East-Central Iowa.  For much of his career, he worked at Johnson Gas Appliance in Cedar Rapids, IA. 

     In his free time, Max enjoyed fishing, western movies, cigars, and spending time with his family. 

     He is survived by his wife, Pauline C. Elkins, sister Pearl Eberly of Brainerd, MN, brother David Elkins of Rainier, Oregon, children:  Crystal Simpson of Boise, ID, Toni Elkins of Nappa, ID, Paul Russel Elkins of Cedar Rapids, IA, Scott Elkins of Marion, IA, Max Elkins II of Vinton, IA, 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his son Kirk Elkins, two brothers, and his parents.  

     A memorial service for Max will be held at the Vinton Presbyterian Church at 2:30 on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 followed by a reception at the American Legion of Vinton.  Military Rites will be conducted by the Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post #57 of Vinton and Iowa Military Funeral Honors.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
