VINTON:

William “Bill” Hansen, 73, died Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton with Pastor Mike Ferguson officiating.

Interment will be held at the Garrison Cemetery with Graveside Military Rites conducted by Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post #57 of Vinton and Iowa Military Funeral Honors. Friends may register at the funeral home from 11 a.m., until service time on Saturday. A memorial fund has been established.

Bill was born October 7, 1942 in Vinton to Leland “Dutch” and Gertrude (Werning) Hansen.

He served his nation in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War. Bill was a member of the Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post #57 of Vinton and was proud to travel with his son on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. this past October.

On August 28, 1965 he was united in marriage to Donna Sell at Traer. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. His greatest joy in life was his granddaughter, Morgan.

Bill was employed as a Commercial Plumber for thirty-eight years with Young Plumbing and Heating in Waterloo.

He is survived by his wife, Donna of Vinton; his son, Travis (Carie) Hansen of Mount Auburn; his grandchildren, Morgan, Forrest and Austin; his sisters, Donna Franklin of Traer, and Ardie (Hap) Junge of Branson, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Robert Karr.

I\'m so sorry to hear of the loss of Bill. We only met so few times but I always knew that smile on his face when we met at family gatherings. I\'m sure he\'ll always be remembered not only by his service to nation but by the people he touched in his life.
