George Edward Smiley, 89, of Chandler, Arizona passed away on December 18, 2015 in Chandler. George was born on August 2, 1926 in Jackson Township, Iowa. He served in the United States Navy in World War II and later worked as a Foreign Service Officer with the US Department of State. George was preceded in death by his parents: Charles Hugh Smiley and Geneva Evelyn (Merchant) Smiley; wife Gloria Smiley; and siblings, Robert and Marge. He is survived by his children: Glenn (Barbara) Smiley; Evelyn (Rick) Harrison; Steve (Jacquie) Smiley and Jennifer Smiley; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and a brother Jerry Smiley. A Prayer Service will be held Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Mortuary, 1562 E. Baseline Rd., Mesa. Condolences can be made at queenofheavencatholicmortuary.com.
