Larry J. Mahr, 60, of Dakota City passed away Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at his residence, while surrounded by his family, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Paul Albenesius officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present at 6 p.m., at the funeral home.

Larry was born in Vinton, Iowa, on Nov. 13, 1955, the son of Joseph and Lois (Schulze) Mahr. He graduated from South Sioux City High School.

He married Laury Hartnett on Aug. 15, 1981, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City. Larry had great pride in his business Mahr Construction with a wonderful crew.

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and Pheasants Forever. He loved fishing, hunting, and going to the cabin in Santee, Neb., with his grandkids. He also enjoyed watching Husker football and old Westerns.

Survivors include his wife, Laury Mahr of Dakota City; two daughters, Jennifer Anderson of Waterbury, Neb., and Jaclyn Mahr of Jackson, Neb., and her special friend, Dustin Anderson of Ponca, Neb.; four grandchildren, Garrett and Gracey Jo Anderson, Jasper Merical and Wyatt Anderson; his mother, Lois Mahr of South Sioux City; mother-in-law, Shirley Knight of Dakota City; a sister, Linda Miller of Arizona; sister-in-law, Pat Mahr of South Sioux City; and two nieces, Monica Miller and Lisa (Karl) Cloud.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Mahr; a brother, Lyle Mahr; two brothers-in-law, Scott and Steve Hartnett; and two fathers-in-law, Johnnie Hartnett and Bill Knight.
