MT. AUBURN – Eugene William “Gene” Womochil, Jr., 54, died at his residence in Mt. Auburn Saturday, September 13, 2014, following sudden cardiac arrest.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Pastor Lenny Power officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, also at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
Gene was born October 17, 1959, in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Eugene William and Ann Mareda Womochil, Sr. He was a 1978 graduate of Washington High School in Vinton. He worked at Terra in Vinton following graduation and then went on to receive an A.A. degree in Welding from Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo.
Gene was a respected agronomist, and he had been a district sales manager for Crow’s Seed Corn Company. He was last employed by B & B Farm Store in Jesup.
Gene attended Brandon Church of Christ. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and gardening. His summers were spent boating and fishing on the river. He was an excellent cook and had a strong love for his family, friends and pets.
Gene is survived by his parents, Gene and Ann Womochil, Sr. of Mt. Auburn; one son, Braden (Brandy Bell) Womochil of Vinton; one daughter, Kaley Womochil of Vinton; two brothers: Ron Lee (Nycki Lynn) Mareda of Independence, MO, and Jim Womochil of Vinton; two sisters: Connye (Rick) Frye of Van Horne and Debbie (Dave Wiebold) Brecht of Parnell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; aunts Helen Cronbaugh and Betty Mareda; uncle Larry Cronbaugh; and one cousin, Scott Cronbaugh.
A memorial fund has been established.
