News : Boomtown 2014: All about light and sound (and trains!) on Aug. 24

This summer, you might find yourself being asked, “What do a train wreck and a battle of the bands have in common?” “What do they have to do with Vinton, IA?”

The answer: Ground shaking, jaw dropping fun at what is now, what we claim to be, the BEST pyrotechnic show west of the Atlantic and east of the Pacific!

Vinton’s very own 7th Annual Boomtown Vinton, presented by Veridian Credit Union, will once again have the type of unique and “intense” pyrotechnics that have become known for putting this event and Vinton, on the map!

The 2013 show on Saturday, August 24th will start with what has become a favorite tradition, the BOOM CLOCK at 12:00 noon – a subtle reminder that the I.P.A. is getting ready! Our gates open at 5:00, and once you’ve found the best seats in the house, the kids can play in the inflatables while you enjoy some great traditional vendor fare and live music by eastern Iowa’s very own “Large Midgets”!

Opening ceremonies will be around the 8:00 hour and the lights will go out shortly after 8:30….A newer (2 year) Boomtown tradition will continue for a third time this year as the show gets started with a very special choreographed display that is 100% put together by the Iowa JUNIOR Pyrotechnic members. Their work is outstanding and will top many of the annual community displays you’ve ever seen! Do not miss the talents, imaginations and efforts of these young people!

After the Junior I.P.A. team gets us glued to our seats with our eyes fixed on the infield, the lights will go out again. You’ll hear it long before you see it. Signal crossings, locomotive whistles, steam, lights and more whistles as 2 locomotives (or are they?) careen across the infield….That’s right!! For Boomtown 2013, Ray and Rodger, along with the I.P.A. are bringing back their Train Wreck for it’s FINAL PERFORMANCE before being retired into pyrotechnic history! If you missed it the first time, this is your last chance, and if you saw it the first time, I know you’ll be there to see it again. It is just that good!

How does an annual fireworks festival, with pyrotechnic members from all over the country, continue to ‘top’ their finales from years past? This year’s secret:
