Despite the efforts of local leaders and Iowa Braille and Sight-Saving School leaders and supporters, the ending of the residential program at IBSSS became one step closer on Thursday.

During a meeting of a study group appointed by the Board of Regents, the group presented a draft proposal that would end the residential program, but keep the campus as the headquarters of the services for blind students throughout the state.

Rep. Dawn Pettengill, who has rallied support for IBSSS for several years, will speak about the issue with Vinton Today Friday afternoon. She attended the meeting in Des Moines where the proposal was announced.
