Iowa State University Extension presents a Summer Webinar Series: Gardening Green 2010 brought to you by the Iowa Master Gardener program. Local ISU Extension offices are hosting these gardening webcast programs. Please note that the nearest participating location is the Linn County Extension Office, which is located at 3279 7thAve., Suite 140, Marion IA 52303.
This three part series will be delivered on the last Tuesday of each month this summer: June 22, July 27and Aug. 24 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. All are welcome. The entrance fee is $5.00 for the gardening public. Each live webcast will feature a different topic within sustainable horticulture.
Growing Green Roofs in Iowaon June 22 will describe green roofs and outline the benefits of installing vegetation on a roof. Examples from Iowa and around the world will be used to illustrate the beautiful possibilities of green roofing. The second half of the session will focus on how to create your own green roof, which can be as simple as greening a birdhouse roof! Presented to you by Dr. Jennifer Bousselot, Department of Horticulture, Iowa State University.
Organic Gardening for Homeownerson July 27 will outline the basics on how to manage your landscape organically. Pest control for vegetable gardening and ornamentals will be discussed. Dr. Kathleen Delate, Departments of Horticulture and Agronomy, Iowa State University will present this session.
Rain Gardens in Iowaon Aug. 24 will illustrate the design and maintenance of rain gardens as a best management practice (BMP) for storm water management in your landscape. Soil preparation and appropriate plant species selection will be emphasized. This topic will be covered by Dr. Ann Marie VanDerZanden, Department of Horticulture, Iowa State University.
