The Vinton Lions club joined members of the Iowa Board of Regents for lunch at the Iowa Braille School on Wednesday. The luncheon was a departure from the regular Lions’ club meetings, which are usually held at the Vinton Pizza Ranch.
Members had an opportunity to speak with members of the Regents. Due to the Regents’ busy agenda, the meeting ended shortly after 12:35, and they went back into session at 12:45. Over 30 members of the Lions’ club were present. Superintendent Patrick Clancy acknowledged members of the Lions club, Kiwanis club, Vinton-Shellsburg superintendent Mary Jo Hainstock, Representative Dawn Pettengill, and members of the Americorps group.
The Vinton Lion’s club is one of the largest and most active community organizations in Vinton. Each week the membership is treated to a program which offers a unique perspective into the varied interests of the membership. New members are always welcome. The mission statement of Lion’s club International is “To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.” For more information about becoming a member, contact Lion’s club Secretary/Treasurer Dick Kerdus.
