On Thursday, May 20, 2010 Defendant Charles Ray Parker, age 71, of Davenport was found guilty by a Benton County jury of the offenses of Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree, Lascivious Acts with a Child, and Dissemination of Obscene Materials to a Minor for acts he committed against an 11 year old female at the Hannen Lake Park in Benton County during the summer of 2005.

Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree is a Class B Felony which carries a twenty-five year prison sentence with the additional requirement that the Defendant serve at least 70 percent of the sentence. Lascivious Acts with a child is a class D felony punishable by an indeterminate term of incarceration not to exceed five years. Dissemination of Obscene Materials to a Minor is a serious misdemeanor.

Trial commenced on Monday, May 17th, 2010 with Benton County District Court Judge Ian Thornhill presiding. The jury received the case early Thursday afternoon and deliberated approximately three hours before reaching their verdict. Sentencing is scheduled for July 22, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. The case was tried by Benton County Attorney David C. Thompson. Linn County Public Defender David Cmelik represented the Defendant.
