News : Fire destroys old farm building

Firefighters from Garrison, Van Horne and Vinton were sent to fight a fire in an old Quonset hut on the Shawn Kreutner farm at around 5 p.m. on Monday. The farm is located on 23rd Avenue, south of 64th Street.

Family members say the barn only contained old machinery; a 1976 pickup near the building was also damaged by fire.

The North Benton Ambulance service was on hand to monitor the firefighter's health; a first-aid station was set up to monitor the blood pressure of the firefighters and to give them a chance to rest and cool off.
