Bonnie Tyler's voice filled Riverside Park several times on Saturday, most notably during the opening song of the Party in the Park Fireworks: "Holding Out for a Hero."

For three days, Vinton area residents celebrated "A Community of Heroes" in a variety of ways. Instead of appointing one grand marshal for the annual parade, organizers invited residents to honor a hero of their choice. While many chose a favorite superhero, others honored veterans, teachers, firefighters and others who devote their lives to serving and helping their community and their country.

The fireworks show also included other favorite "hero" songs, including the themes from "Ghostbusters" and "S.W.A.T."

Before the fireworks, residents filled the park to listen to The High Road Band, a local group, and Vocal Trash, the nationally-known band that uses a variety of recycled instruments in its shows.
