Thanks to a high number of text message votes to KWWL, Vinton-Shellsburg was chosen as this week's School Spirit school for the television station. That meant that faculty and students had to get up extra early for a pep assembly that began at 6 a.m.

KWWL's Nikki Newbrough interviwed several VSHS students and Principal Matt Kingsbury for some live segments for Friday morning's "Today in Iowa" show. The camera man captured several VSHS cheers as Nikki spoke to athletes as well as members of the VS FFA.

Nikki was very surprised when cross country team member Brant Corcran invited her to the VS Prom. The KWWL morning show Facebook page is now asking for readers' opinions on whether or not she should go.

Each week, the TV station features a different eastern Iowa School. Previous honorees include Union and Center Point-Urbana.
