News : VSHS Jazz Band ends season with First Place win at Charles City

VSHS Jazz Band members earned First Place in their season-ending performance.

The Vinton-Shellsburg Jazz Band just missed earning a wild card spot in the 2012 Jazz Championships, but the band ended its season well, finishing first at the Charles City competition on Saturday.

"The band director from Charles City noted how amazing it was that there were more people from Vinton-Shellsburg and more support for Vinton-Shellsburg in the audience than any other school," said VSHS Band Director Karl Smith. "The audience support has been terrific all year! What a great group the jazz band students have been to work with......I have enjoyed EVERY minute! Congratulations to the VSHS Jazz Band for a terrific performance at the Charles City Jazz Festival and receiving 1st place! What a great way to end the season!"
