News : VSHS sends three to UNI Honor Band

UNI Honor Band musicians: Kayla Peterson (clarinet), Nick Gardner (Tenor Sax), & Lexi Hicok (oboe).

Three members of the Vinton-Shellsburg High School Band Department have been selected for participation at this year’s UNI Northern Festival of Bands (February 9-11).

The following students have been selected for participation: Kayla Peterson (clarinet), Nick Gardner (Tenor Saxophone), and Lexi Hicok (oboe).

The selected students will attend clinics and concerts led by university professors and students and will get to see and experience the University of Northern Iowa School of Music. The students will compete and perform with the top high school musicians from around the state of Iowa, and have the option of participating in the solo contest, where the best student performance is awarded with a college scholarship.

This year’s performing ensembles will be conducted by Dr. Laszlo Marosi, Conductor of the Orchestra at the University of Central Florida and Dr. Claudio Re, Director of Bands at Kenyon College. The performance will take place at the UNI Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center of Music on Saturday, February 11. Admission will be charged and tickets are available for purchase through UNI.
