Being scary is a good thing, this time of the year.

Kaboom.org, a national nonprofit organization that helps to create playgrounds, recently held a "scariest playgrounds" in America contest. The old and wind-damaged Garrison park was the third place winner, says Mandy Fisher, who has helped lead the fund-raising for new playground equipment.

"Our submission earned us the title of Third Place," said Fisher. "This awarded us another $500 towards the park fund."

The fund has raised approximately $19,000 raised for the park project; organizers are looking to purchase a new piece of equipment in the next few weeks.

"We still need approximately $5,000 in funds to cover the safety surfacing and other costs however anticipate having a community build for this playground in the spring 2012," said Fisher.
