Mark Clark of Cedar Rapids was too young to remember his father, World War II veteran Robert E. Clark. But the veterans of the Vinton VFW Post 8884 have done what they could to help preserve the memory of the soldier for his son.
Post 8884 presented Mark a new U.S. Flag as part of a display of other items in honor of Robert Clark. The original flag was found in poor condition after Mark's mother died. The VFW replaced the flag and also presented a plaque to Mark in honor of his dad. The post members consider it an honor to help families preserve the memories of their loved ones who served their country.
The tribute also included a flag folding ceremony and a presentation of the flag to the soldier's family.
Pictured during the presentation were: Jeanette Henry, the Urbana Legion Auxiliary President and Past Benton County Auxiliary President; Dennis Henry, a member of the Urbana Legion and a friend of Mark Clark; John Gualtier, VFW Service Officer; Mark Clark; VFW Commander Dale Henry; VFW membere Marvin Learch; and Don Roepke, VFW member and past State Commander.
