Friday night found me driving into Vinton on the heels of the storm that had just gone through.

In LaPorte City, trees had blown over or had been struck by lightning. (That lightning was no joke!) The street crews were clearing the street and removing downed branches and trees. Debris also covered a short section of Highway 218.

Meanwhile, in Vinton, we had wind and torrential rains. Streets flooded and limbs came down as a result. One driver on 8th Street ignored the "turn around, don't drown" advice. Fortunately, only the car succumbed to the water and required pushing out of the water.

On 5th St. between C and D Ave., a limb landed on the power lines. Meanwhile, on the north edge of town as you enter Vinton over the bridge, Justin Tharp captured the flooding that greeted those arriving home during the storm.

In other words, it was a mess for a little while in town. Thanks to our street and electric crews for responding in their off-time to get things cleared up as quick as they could.

Comments on social media included thoughts about the flooding which included remarks like, "Vinton needs to do something!" I agree. It's time to raise the whole town and move the river a bit more to the north...oh and let's just stop the rain while we're at it!
