Union Community School District (UCSD) has taken a significant step forward in ensuring the safety of its students and staff by partnering with ZeroEyes, an industry-leading AI gun detection and situational awareness platform. This makes UCSD the first district in eastern Iowa, and one of only a few in the state, to adopt this proactive security measure.
Superintendent John Howard expressed his pride in the district's commitment to safety. "I am pleased and proud that our board chose to improve the safety and security at all four of our buildings by cooperating with ZeroEyes. Our district is the first in eastern Iowa, and one of just a few districts in Iowa, that is partnering with ZeroEyes to make our campuses safer for students, staff, and visitors. By having both the artificial intelligence and human verification associated with ZeroEyes, the Union Community School District is being proactive in any firearm recognition and can further become a leader in school safety and security."
ZeroEyes' advanced AI technology integrates with UCSD's existing security camera system, scanning for firearms and instantly alerting security personnel in the event of a detected threat. The system is monitored 24/7 by military and law enforcement veterans at the ZeroEyes Operations Center (ZOC), ensuring rapid response times as quick as 3 to 5 seconds from detection.
"Every student deserves a safe learning environment," said Mike Lahiff, CEO and co-founder of ZeroEyes. "It's inspiring to see communities such as Union Community School District emphasize the importance of advanced security methods through the deployment of proactive measures such as ZeroEyes."
Union Community School District serves the communities of La Porte City, Dysart, Buckingham, Garrison, Geneseo, and Mount Auburn across Benton, Black Hawk, and Tama counties, with approximately 1,000 students across its schools. With this new initiative, UCSD continues to strengthen its commitment to providing a safe and secure learning environment for all.
