Sometimes your plan to just relax and do a little bit of fishing are changed into something that needs to be done. Usually, it's something that keeps you from leaving the house, or another list of chores gets in the way.
A couple of little girls made it out of the house with their dad in tow to enjoy a bit of fishing this past week. Taylor 9, a 3rd grader along with her sister Raegen 7, a 1st grader, spent a little time with their lines in the water resulting in just a couple of fish before they noticed something else that needed to be taken care of.
It's probably one of those things that had been learned by the girls since they were little, and that's to not litter and make a mess of the outdoors. Their dad is the Vice-President of the Red Cedar Chapter in Vinton so they spend a lot of time enjoying the outdoors together.
The two girls asked their dad if they could instead of fishing, pick up trash that was laying on the ground around the pond. The three bundled their fishing gear up and loaded everyone up to go and get some supplies.
The two sisters, armed with some trash grabbers and garbage bags, were able to completely fill two garbage bags full of trash with just one lap around the pond. Their dad, Joe Redenbaugh said anything that wasn't "created by nature" went into the bags.
After watching his girls help to make the world a better place, Joe said, "We could take a lesson from these girls and ask ourselves "how can I leave this place better than I found it?" As sportsman and outdoorsman, let's strive to pull a bag of trash out of our favorite public hunting and fishing spots each time we visit!"
That's a great idea, and probably one that can be done anywhere you go. Kudos to Joe and Micah in the parenting department!
