Vinton-Shellsburg High School was the location for the celebration of Veteran's Day. With social distancing and masks worn the veterans appreciated the recognition of their service. The ceremony is usually held at the middle school with the complete student body in attendance, but this year it was limited to the high school.

The day began with breakfast and followed with a drum cadence while students filed through the cafeteria, some holding signs thanking the veterans for their service as well as several small American flags.

The students then presented the veterans with red carnations as the veterans filed into the auditorium where pre-recorded segments were shared with the group.

Among the presentation were various song presentations, thank yous by students as well as videos of students who participated in the 22 push-ups challenge. The challenge highlights the need to help soldiers who struggle with suicidal thoughts. The presentation also included a military salute for each branch of the military and the Star Spangled Banner.

Kelly Steffan presented Ron Albright of the local American Legion a donation of $1,937. The monies were raised through the Sweats for Vets efforts of the staff of Vinton-Shellsburg.
