There is a program available to people in need of a wheelchair ramp. A little known program called W.R.A.P. (Wheelchair Ramp Accessibility Program of Iowa).
WRAP. is made up of a group of volunteers that help people in need that have limited mobility have the freedom to get in and out of their homes more easily.
The WRAP is a non-profit program that offers free labor, design and repairs the ramp if it's needed after the installation. The program will also help people find financial assistance for building materials if that's needed.
The people that this program assists are often in crisis and have been affected by a life-changing accident or illness that leaves them unable to get back into their homes. Often something like a wheelchair ramp is the last thing on their minds. The group is able to help with a quick and affordable solution to the problem.
The group was in Shellsburg installing a ramp of a homeowner. Normally they operate out of Linn county but occasionally the reach into Benton County. Many of the volunteers in this group are former Rockwell Collins employees who donate their time to help.
