Dennis Bramow's team took second place in the waterball tournament he helped organize in front of the Benton County Courthouse on Friday evening.
Dozens of from throughout Iowa participated in the annual local competition. The Riverdale team led by Randy Bowers was the first place winner. Third place went to Fairfax and leader Carl Svec. The Newhall team which Trent Claeys led won the 4th place trophy.
The Newhall team included: Claeys on the nozzle, along with Jason Rayman, Gene Petersen and Tim Haerther.
One of the teams that Claeys competed against was one from the Victor FD, which included a frequent, very familiar opponent: His father, Jamie Claeys. See a video of this contest HERE.
For some participants, like Colin Mansager of the Vinton Fire Department, Friday's event represented a first-ever opportunity to compete in the contests that have been going on for decades.
"It was a great training experience," said Mansager, the newest VFD rookie, who joined the department June 1. "I had a great time working with the team -- it was the most fun I have had in a long time."
