The river rose quickly to 15.8 feet after the torrential rains of the Labor Day weekend, but has remained steady and is expected to do so for the next day or two, before rising again.

Streets and yards continue to be flooded in and around Vinton, and the National Weather Service predicts that the Cedar River will crest at 18 feet at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
That level is considered "Moderate" flooding under the NWS scale.
