Look for Extension Council Candidates on the Nov. 2 Ballot
Voters will have the opportunity to elect five members of the Benton County Extension Council at the Nov. 2, 2010, general election, says Greg Walston, Benton County Extension Program Director.
“The council members elected this year will have exciting opportunities to determine the work that extension will do here in Benton County for the next four years,” Walston said. Extension programming is a cooperative effort involving local citizens, Iowa State University and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Extension council members are elected at large, and all voters in the county are eligible to vote for five candidates.
Candidates on this year’s ballot include: Shannon Feuerbach, 1443 69th St., Keystone; Marilyn Gerhold, 7298 31st Ave., Atkins; Allison Hicks, 1922 62nd Street Dr., Garrison ; Kathy Janss, 411 1st Ave., Keystone; Dale Lavin, 7227 33rd Ave., Atkins; Matthew Marovec, 2401 66th St., Vinton; Spencer Weeks, 6239 26th Ave., Vinton; Jennifer Zahradnik, 920 12th St., Belle Plaine
Council members whose terms expire this year are Susie Henkle, 1975 60th St. Dr., Garrison; Kathy Janss, 411 1st Ave. Keystone; Marc Merchant,1009 West 1st St., Vinton; Brad Olson, 3053 74th St., Atkins; Jordan Pflughaupt, 2427 55th St., Vinton. Carryover council members whose terms continue through the end of 2012 are Scott Hepker, 5603 30th Ave., Vinton; Judi Hertle, 6680 27th Ave., Vinton; Nancy Jensen, 1544 75th St., Vinton; Ben Olson, 6373 23rd Ave., Vinton.
Successful candidates in the Nov. 2, 2010, election will take office in January 2011. Extension council members make policy, programming and budget decisions for the Benton County Extension Service.
