The Benton County Sheriff’s Office as part of their grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau participated in the sTEP wave from August 24th through September 6, 2010. The focus of this project is both public awareness and increased patrols in an effort to reduce serious injuries and fatalities on Iowa roadways.

Benton County Sheriff Randall Forsyth reports that deputies issued (62) citations and (73) warnings. Deputies made (3) OWI arrests, (1) driving while barred arrest; and (2) drug related arrests. Deputies also investigated (6) property damage; (1) personal injury; and (1) fatal accident. Deputies also assisted (13) motorist with various problems and conducted (4) canine drug searches.

Our goal is to reduce accidents through public awareness and proactive enforcement of the traffic laws.
