A possible spinal cord injury suffered by a Metro League 6th grade football player brought an air ambulance from St. Luke's Hospital to the Metro league football field near Tilford Elementary School Tuesday evening.
The player was injured in a collision with another player. At first he reported having no sensation in his arms or legs. But by the time he was placed in the helicopter, he was reportedly feeling pinches and wiggling his toes.
The player, Hunter Davis, suffered a mild concussion and a hyper-extended neck, according to an email from one of the coaches which was sent to parents Wednesday morning. He is expected to recover fully. He was reportedly regaining feeling and movement in all of his extremeties and may be released from the hospital today.
"He's doing a lot better," said Josh McGowan, who is a Metro father, and a member of the Vinton Fire Department. McGowan was at the field when the injury took place and was one of the first to offer assistance.
