Once again we added another great dimension to our community, the Palace Theater showing football games live on the big screen at the theater. It was really cool and I know they are planning more events starting with the big show down between Iowa and Iowa State this weekend. At first, we thought we needed to keep quiet like a movie and actually any time I had a little bit of excitement come out of me, my trusting sidekick Erin would nudge me like I was too loud. But as the game continued, everyone realized you could yell, scream and have a good time.
I have heard talk of other possible live showings such as plays, opera, etc., so it’s not just about hosting sporting events but they probably won’t serve brats and nachos during the opera. It was just another really neat little thing happening in the big town of Vinton.
There are a lot of programs and events coming up with our department, so make sure you get involved and have some fun. Don’t forget to come out to the game this Friday Night at the Karr Athletic Complex to watch the game and the Jr. Cheerleading Squad as they perform between games. It is always a lot of fun to watch them do their routines. Special thanks to the cheerleaders and their coaches for their help in making this a fun and exciting program for the kids.
We are just about full for our annual VPRD Two Person Best Shot on Saturday, September 18th. Farmers Market is at the Rail Road Depot on Thursday. The market is from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. The vendors have been bringing some great products so make sure you stop out to support our local growers and bakers. If you have any questions about the market or want more information on how to become a vendor, give us a call at 472-4164. Stop by and see all the great things our local vendors have to offer. This week at the market, because of the rain last week, we will be having our Vendor Give Away Night & Guess What Night. Just sign up to win one of a couple bags of goodies from the vendors and have some fun at a few guessing games throughout the night. Also remember. If we do get rain, we will still have the market; it will be on the south side of the depot under the canopy.
Also mark your calendars for the September 23rd market, that will not only have Chef Bob, popping up some fabulous popcorn but we will also be having market from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. that night because of the Homecoming Parade starting at 6:00.
