News : Football season begins with VS pep rally

The Vinton-Shellsburg athletic department teams received recognition during a pep rally Friday at the end of the school day. The girls swim team, the boys and girls cross country, the volleyball team and cheerleaders all had a chance to stand and receive applause from their fellow students as their coaches briefly summarized the teams' young seasons.

Then it was time for the football team.

"Tonight we play Benton!" said Coach Pat Farley as he stood in front of the team facing the audience. "Tonight we BEAT Benton."

The students cheered in response. Farley introduced each varsity player before the pep rally dismissed.
