The building at the northwest corner of First Avenue and Fifth Street has been the home to several businesses. Most recently the home of the Vinton Eagle, the buiding is recalled by many Vinton residents as the site a former pool hall.

Rich Hainstock bought the building from Scott and Julie Hansen, and is in the process of restoring it.

A few days ago, while replacing the windows in the upstairs area, Hainstock, the husband of Vinton-Shellsburg Superintendent Mary Jo Hainstock, said he does not yet know what he plans to do with the building.

He has previously purchased and restored buildings in other cities where the Hainstocks have lived. He said leasing or even selling the building for business space are among his options.

The first job was to replace the roof. The windows came next, along with some repair of the exterior walls. Hainstock said he is not finishing the upstairs portion of the building at this time, other than replacing windows.

The most noticable change is in the front of the building, where new doors windows and exterior siding have been installed.
